Weekend in the life

By Rose Simpson

Another month, another move.

Marissa and Jeff will finally take possession of their apartment, moving out once again. Stefan is still waffling on his ETA; he’ll be moving into Marissa’s space sometime in the spring. And Nick is still happily ensconced in his lair having spent his Ontario Tax Credit on a brand new Zelda game for the Wii.

I have been busy cooking for an army making soup and other delights, listening to the sounds of the Young and the Restless wafting from the livingroom. Y&R has has become something of an addiction for the happy couple.

Marissa is braiding Jeff’s hair. Is that what it’s called? Or weaving it? Whatever she’s doing it will take three hours and involves a crochet hook.

My neck hurts and my feet are numb. I’m trying to break in a new pair of shoes in anticipation for what will laughably be called personal training.

Now that I’ve exhausted my cosmetic surgery options, I’ll be hitting the gym, trying spinning and gravity yoga and floating on a noodle in a saltwater pool. Ah, life is rough.

Today, I filled the fridge with veggies and Greek yogurt, spiked the bananas on their hook in the corner, concocted a reliable vegetarian minestrone soup and made Rice Krispie squares. I love having a full fridge — Dini Petty once said a full fridge was a symbol of success in life, and I believe it. Also shopped today for Vitamin C cream for the rosacea I didn’t know I had and found it at Winner’s for nine bucks. I went to Winners for sunglasses and came out about $40 poorer, clenching the designer shades ($14!, aforementioned serum and something called mineral makeup, something I just learned about during my adventures in plastic surgery.

I feel renewed. I have money in my pocket for the first time in about six months, food in the fridge, wine on the chill (I also learned that the red wine was exacerbating my rosacea, so now I’m switching to — wait for it! – blush.)

Tonight, there will be beef stroganoff on the simmer followed by a full night of the first season of The Wire.

Tomorrow will be our first day at the gym. Wish me luck.

Please don’t say break a leg.

Just another weekend in the life of Rosalita54.
